Pinus thunbergii

These Japanese black pines have been grown in a 1 gal. pot and trained to present a short gnarled trunk. Using the common Japanese bonsai techniques, the trunks were tightly wired with heavy aluminum wire and formed into contorted shapes. Some of the wire remains on the trunk and bites into the bark, thus the beautiful shapes are formed. It can remain on the trunks forever as the new bark covers the wire. If noticeable, the wire can be carefully removed. The trees have been trimmed to develop many branches for selecting and training into beautiful bonsai in a short period of time. Their size makes them ideal for creating shohin or dynamic small size bonsai. The bushy specimens are loaded with mycorrhizae indicating excellent health and vigor. Shape an unusual small bonsai with a gnarled trunk in a workshop!
