Itoigawa Sargent Juniper

Juniperus chinensis ‘Shimpaku Kishu’

Sargent juniper or Shimpaku is a favorite with all bonsai artists because they don’t have a natural growth form and can be created into any shape. The evergreen bright green foliage of the Itoigawa cultivar is much more delicate than the Kishu sargent juniper. These choice plants have been wired once and trunks have interesting forms with many branches which can be easily wired. Young specimens started from cuttings are ready for shaping and growing and are smaller than the Kishu sargent juniper and great for shohin bonsai. This variety is grafted on to old junipers to created distinctive bonsai with fine delicate bright green foliage.
