Kora Dalager

Travel in California specializing in bonsai tours to Japan. She has been studying the art of bonsai display and the use of companion plants and kusamono for many years. She keeps a busy schedule teaching bonsai and companion plantings on the west coast as well as throughout the United States.

David DeGroot

Professional bonsai artist, author, instructor and curator of the Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection in Federal Way, Washington. Mr. DeGroot has conducted considerable research on the horticultural aspects of growing and maintaining bonsai. His studies in Japan have helped him to create and understand bonsai display. He maintains his bonsai collection in addition to teaching around the country.

Dennis Makishima

bonsai instructor and professional ornamental tree pruner specializing in Japanese gardens. Mr. Makishima lives in the San Francisco Bay area, California, where he teaches both bonsai and ornamental tree pruning at Merritt College. His training in Japan is evident in his thorough and comprehensive programs specializing in pines and freely shares his pruning techniques and serene bonsai philosophy.

Ryan Neil

Professional bonsai artist and proprietor of International Bonsai Mirai in the Portland, Oregon area. Mr. Neil is originally from Colorado and received his horticulture degree from California Polytechnic State before studying with Masahiko Kimura in Japan for six years. He is now teaching bonsai throughout the United States and abroad teaching the bonsai techniques he learned while training in Japan.

Peter Warren

Professional bonsai artist and proprietor of Saruyama Bonsai in London, England. Mr. Warren studied bonsai, suiseki and display with Kunio Kobayashi at the Shunka-en Bonsai Museum in Tokyo for five years. He is an authority on bonsai display, suiseki and how the two are combined to create distinctive displays. He now maintains a busy schedule teaching his techniques in Europe and the United States.

Kathy Shaner

Professional bonsai artist, instructor and curator of the Golden State Bonsai Federation Lake Merritt Bonsai Collection in Oakland, California. Mrs. Shaner trained in Japan for many years with Yasuo Mitsuya and shares her bonsai knowledge, artistry and techniques around the country in her comprehensive bonsai programs and workshops. She helps many private collectors maintain and improve their personal bonsai collections.

William. N. Valavanis

Professional bonsai artist, scholar, instructor and author. Mr. Valavanis maintains his bonsai collection at the International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, New York. He publishes International BONSAI and maintains a busy world wide teaching schedule and shares his 50 years of experience. Mr. Valavanis is well known for his dedication in promoting classical bonsai art on an international scale.
